Signal Knob Expedition, January 2002

Unfortunately, there are no photographs of this camping trip initiation because Adam forgot to bring a camera. The Signal Knob trip was almost a lost cause from the very beginning. After organizing the cold-weather one-nighter, Adam Domanski and Tom Saffell were surprised that only one person who signed up actually followed through. The lone initiate is now NORSA Charter Member, Steve Long. The trip began late because Tom had a court appointment in Baltimore that lasted several hours. When they finally hit the trail, light was already fading fast.

Adam Domanski, in the wisdom of leadership decided to lead a pointless charge directly up the mountain, ignoring the switchbacks, in the interest of saving time. Of course, time was actually lost in the uphill rush. This, of course, was blamed on Tom Saffell. At the peak, the crew delegated responsibilities: Adam cooked dinner as usual, Tom kindled a merry little fire as usual, and Steve pitched the tents. After dinner it was too cold to do much anything except sleep. The following morning featured a return hike to the trailhead where Steve was delighted to find that his car had not been stolen, vandalized, or towed because it was such a "classy" Volvo from 198?.

Because of the lack of pictures, the three attendees of the Signal Knob Expedition plan to have a reunion tour perhaps with the people who signed up and didn't come on the first trip.
